PUDDINGTON and BLACK DOG W.I.

SKITTLES TEAM NEWS
The latest report from Joan Lakeland, the team's Vice Captain:

"I'm afraid that I have got a little behind with the latest scores and how we have been doing, but as you will see in a moment, we are doing really quite well still. The game we played on 10th March against 'North Tawton', played at the Black Dog, was a success and the team won by 25 pins. I was away on holiday that week, but was very pleased to hear the news when I got back. Our next game was on the 30th March against Down St. Mary, played at the Waie Inn, and was an even bigger success, we won that game by 54 pins, and all managed to get spare after spare. We were all in great form that night, and as our excitement grew, so did the laughter. Our captain, Eileen, got rather cross with us and said that if we didn't calm down and come to order, she would have to turn off her hearing aid. It's not often she lays down the law, but I think even that night she felt rather excited because she could see that so long as we kept our minds on the game, we could win by a large amount. This match was to make up for Down St. Mary having to cancel earlier on in the year, and so we had to re-schedule to play that night, and I am glad to say it was well worth it! The next game was played the following evening, on 31st March at the Black Dog against Crediton. We lost to them in our last match back in October 2003, but this time managed another good win. We won by 26 pins and had a wonderful evening enjoyed by both Crediton and us. Another noisy game, but great fun. Our final game so far was played last week on 7th April at the Waie Inn against Mary Down. Again we had a great evening, although we lost this game by 11 pins. After our last visit to the Waie Inn on the 30th March when we won by 54 pins, we hoped that we could play like that again, but it wasn't to be. Some nights are just like that for some reason, and we played very poorly. We now have just one more game to play on the 21st April before the end of this season. Then we just have to wait for the dinner in May to find out who has won the cup this year. One thing for sure is that we will not be getting the wooden spoon this year as we have done for many years past now. It was nice after one game when the other team told us how jolly we all were, and as we said then, we just love to play and have a good night out. We all have good sense of humours, but it's a real bonus when we win. Wish us luck for our last game, and will let you know how we did."
