PUDDINGTON and BLACK DOG W.I.

SKITTLES TEAM NEWS
Puddington & Black Dog W.I. Final Skittles Team News Friday 7th May 2004.

Well, we have played our final game of the season, and the points have all been calculated, and last night was the dinner at the Waie Inn to find out who had won, and just how all the other teams had done. We went along with high hopes because we were sure that at least we would not be going home with the wooden spoon this year, but just how well we had done was something we would have to wait to find out. There are twelve teams altogether in the league, and all of them would like to win of course, and there was speculation all around of just how well they had all done, but no one was giving anything away. We all met at about 6.30pm ready to sit down for our meal at 7pm. There was a lot to talk about and catch up on with different people and friends during the evening, and so it was quite noisy for some time. Hard to believe with women really!! Anyway, after a very nice meal and coffee, the results and places were ready to be announced, and so hush was called for. Three teams tied for last place, which was very unusual, but this means that they will all have to share the wooden spoon, each team having it for four months during the next year. Neither of these three teams was us though! After all the other teams points were read out and we had still not been mentioned, we were all getting rather exited, but then our name was read out as being third. We were still very pleased with that though as we have never been anywhere near to third place before, and have been given the wooden spoon so many times that our name appears on it for most of the past years. They said that we had made a great improvement to get to third place after all these years of being last. The winners of the trophy this year were the Kyrtonians from Crediton. Well done to them all, but just watch out for us next year, we are determined to win, and first place is all that we will settle for. Now we know that we can get this far we are heading for the top and determined to put in that little extra effort to get there. Eileen Rogers, our captain and myself were presented with a very nice bottle of wine each from our team as way of thanks for what we have done, that was very nice and unexpected. But real thanks should go to Eileen because she has been the main-stay for the team, and pulls us back into place when we need it, which is quite often as we do get a little over exited sometime. Thanks Boss, long may you be our captain. We need you.
